AUDITIONS for New Chamber Choir!

UPDATE: Audition slots are filled and are no longer accepting further registrations. Thank you for your interest!

****

WOW! What a great response to the new chamber choir concept! I really appreciate your comments - let's push forward.

THE CHOIR
The choir (name to be determined) will consist of 16 singers (4 of each voice part: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) and will focus on Renaissance polyphony and other genres of unaccompanied vocal chamber music. I will be the director.

TRIAL CONCERT
Before we commit to an entire concert season, I'd like to present a trial concert on Saturday, April 18 at 7:30pm at Trinity Parish Church - 609 8th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104. Those that audition and are chosen will be expected to perform at this concert and will be invited to participate in the 2015-2016 concert season if planned. Four rehearsals will be scheduled with the chosen 16 singers [as to accommodate to everyone's busy schedule!].

COMMITMENT
Members will be expected to attend four 3-hour rehearsals per concert which will be scheduled with the selected 16.

TERMS
Singers will be expected to re-audition every two years. This choir is mainly focused on attracting singers interested in professional singing and I want to make sure there are opportunities for them to join! I expect this bit of competition will also keep the level high.

FEES
Singers pay no fees and are paid a small honorarium (assuming there is anything left after expenses are paid). Singers will be entitled to 1/20 of net revenues (ticket sales minus expenses - (sheet music, program printing, building use fee, etc.) [This won't amount to much money, probably enough for a few post-concert drinks? :)]

AUDITION INFORMATION
Audition required. Interested singers are required to sign up for a 10-minute audition by 5pm Friday, February 6th on one of the dates below at St. Clement's Episcopal Church -1501 32nd Ave S Seattle, WA 98144

Saturday, February 7th 10am-2pm
Saturday, February 14th 10am-2pm
*If you are interested, but aren't available on either of these dates let me know.

MUSIC:
Singers are required to learn a part of their choice on TAVERNER'S Quemadmodum (edition courtesy of Joshua Haberman) and will be expected to sing their own part alone (and with a partner) with 5 other singers (on the other parts).

CRITERIA:
1. Execution
Intonation and singing in time are super important. The cleaner the better!

2. Contextual Singing Ability
Singing in context is key! It may sound basic, but singing the same notes as your partner, singing in time with others, and adjusting your tuning if necessary are paramount in ensemble singing.

3. Vocal facility
The audience will want to hear you! It's great to hear voices come out of the texture so show us what you got.

TIPS:
-Don't sing quietly
-Sing comfortably, even if that means with vibrato.
-Quiet "straight tone" singing not required!

  2. Preliminary CONCERT

Before we focus on a whole show season, I'd jump at the chance to exhibit a preliminary show on Saturday, April 18 at 7:30pm at Trinity Parish Church - 609 eighth Ave, Seattle, WA 98104. Those that tryout and are picked will be required to perform at this show and will be welcome to take an interest in the 2015-2016 show season if arranged. Four practices will be planned with the picked 16 vocalists [as to suit to everybody's bustling schedule!].
